“Katie Watkins is a multidisciplinary artist based in Plymouth. Her practice explores the domestic boundaries of fibre art from the narrative of a female, Welsh artist. Inspired by a crochet blanket handmade by her great-grandmother, each work becomes an intergenerational conversation, informed by its colours, processes and values of resourcefulness.
She uses crochet as a container for Hiraeth - a Welsh term describing a deep emotional connection to home, place, culture and belonging. Through painting, crochet and repurposing materials, Katie memorialises her home in South Wales, reframing domestic scenes from a modern, artistic perspective.”
